MTAA's Karaoke DeathMatch 100

Comments on “Play That Funky Music” performed by M.River

  1. 2 years ago, even before we filmed the performance, Tim began to tell me that in no uncertain terms that I suck. That he would destroy me in the KDM100. That in no round and on no song I win. He would say this in a way that I knew was not boasting or trash talking but some deep held belief.

It’s round 49. It’s tied. This song, this round is why he was and still is wrong.

It’s almost the end of the 8 hours of filming. It’s an oven in the studio, and my voice left long ago. No matter what Tim’s been saying in the chat, I’m run into walls in the hallway heading to the bathroom drunk and room spinning drunk.

And I still do this song full out. Beginning to end.

Meanwhile, Tim gives some effort in the first moments of his poorly pick song…and then fades. He stumbles through it as if somewhat bored at this point. He’ll say “Oh, I was soooooo crunked at this point”. That is true but it not the alcohol. He is worn out. He’s been worn out for the last half of the KDM100. And this is the key, the point Tim did not see going into this and may still not believe. The KDM100 is not about each song. It is about the arch of the competition over time. It’s a marathon. You need to push hard at the end.

Yeah they was dancin’ and singin’ and movin’ to the groovin’_
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted…

  2. I think KDM100 has driven m.river insane…

This isn’t my best choice or my best performance. But I’ve lost many rounds where I was clearly better so we’ll see how it goes.
